EDIT: I see it. It is exactly what I expected, but exceptionally well hidden. Outstanding illusion.
The thing is: The missing triangle is so tiny that, even if you do it sloppily with, say, paper and scissors, you can make it work at least once or twice.
@mina it's not the shape that makes the trick work here as much as it is the frame rate and inability to stop the animation. The brain leans INTO the illusion rather than the actuality. It doesn't want to see the individual frames and their differences.
There's actually a version with slightly different cuts which works as well, even with only two static images.
