Does anybody know the data visualisation software

Is it any good?
Is it relevant in contemporary ?

@mina
I've spoken to a person working in data analysis and she told me she liked it, but it's expensive and it's a different process flow that you kind of need to learn.

@mina@berlin.social yes, in terms of visualization capabilities I've used it and it is amazing. Problem is, you need a server - which is expensive - and then a client, for which you will pay a license.

I used to do some data science , together with HADOOP and IMPALA, and the result was, like, DAAS, data as a service, meaning you can expose something like a presentation, with graph and everything, and the data will be updated in realtime.

And much more.

But, it is expensive. Usually, for corporate or enterprise use.

@mina It can make really slick dashboards if you can afford it and wrangle your data into the form it likes.

@mina I think so, it was one of the recommended solutions in a data bootcamp-like thing I did

@mina I have it seen mostly used in a corporate environment where it is being used more for visualization similar to power BI. Basically Excel on steroids with some relatively simple analysis and great presentations. If this is your focus and money is not an issue it can be a great option. Personally I very much enjoy using LLMs with Jupyter notebooks that make the same tasks (like creating plots with specific colors, etc.) quite eas.

I'm currently a Tableau Server administrator at a company that is the global leader in building medium & heavy duty trucks, I was a Tableau developer before that, and was a professional Excel & Access VBA developer before that.

Tableau Desktop & Prep do not require a Tableau Server. They can be used alone for the analyst. The server is necessary if you wish to create content and make it readily available to a larger audience and easily automate refreshing of data sources & flows.

Is it a good tool to be knowledge about? Yes. Is it a good visualization tool? Definitely, they were the original to turn reporting on it's head...Power BI is Microsoft trying to get into the game (like they always do) and doing the [basically] same thing. I think it's better than Power BI but that is a bias of mine. It is NOT like Excel!

Our business analysts, data scientists, and data engineers make use of Tableau. Clearly not their only tool, just to be clear. I say go for it!
