North Sea collision: the cargo ship was carrying 15 containers of the toxic chemical sodium cyanide

The tanker was carrying jet fuel for the US government, some of which is spilling into the North Sea

BBC NewsOil tanker and cargo vessel collide in North SeaBoth vessels are on fire and the condition of those rescued is unknown.

@fulelo

the fuck 🤦

how could they even be close to each other

@berlinfokus @fulelo
Better headline: Cargo ship runs into anchored tanker 😜
Lede: A cargo ship with dangerous sodium cyanide on board ran straight into a petroleum tanker anchored off Grimbsby. The cargo ship is wedged into the side of the tanker and burned severely. Both ships' crews evacuated immediately. One member of the cargo ship's crew is missing.

@DavidPenington @fulelo

I do not know anything about this particular incident.

That being said, there have been some crashes recently involving US (affiliated) military ships.

One of the possible problems here is, that they seem to kinda love to turn off their transponder.

And (but this is just speculation !) maby this is the case here too & the tanker was invisible (to a inattentive cargo-ship captn).

@berlinfokus @DavidPenington in friendly waters? Am no expert but i was thinking thick fog but then yes, radars etc dont mind fog... so you might be right

@fulelo

Really don't take this for face value. It's just thoughts. (And I'm to lazy to check if the transponder was turned on in the net.)

But the tanker was part of a strategic reserve .. so I guess maby you wouldn't like to show its position too much.

Anyway, You're the journalist. 😉 😁
