Dear fellow , I am more than happy to your post, if I like it or consider yours a worthy cause, but if you try to push me with

"Please boost!"

or worse, to coerce me with

"Boost, if you agree!"

I become very reluctant to comply.

Call it "recalcitrant", if you wish, but I don't feel that you trust me to do the right thing, if you believe, you have to explicitly tell me to hit a button.

@mina @hannu_ikonen Yeah, “boost if you agree” is guaranteed to annoy me and often leads to an immediate unfollow.

There is only one reason I boost posts: if I think it is the sort of thing that at least some of the people who follow me might be interested in.

@mina IMO Toots are way too short to add a variation on "Likensubscribe" to them. If one is already very short and concise, it's better to leave it that short for it to achieve more reach and impact.

@mina

I’m the same, although “boosts appreciated” is fine. I don’t like feeling manipulated.

@mina This usually guarantees that I won't boost the post, and seeing posts like that in someone's feed can be be what decides me against following them in the first place.

Obviously there are some exceptions, such as requests for help that I think followers might want to respond to. But if it's just about boosts for the sake of boosts, its the kind of behaviour I came here to get away from.

@mina Hey, I am Supermastodonian! I can agree even without boosting! 💪😎

@mina "Boost if you agree" seems manipulative to me, and I don't respond well to that. (It's not as bad as the "99% of people won't share" that I used to see on Facebook, though.)

But it's okay for people to ask for what they want or need. If what's wanted is just more attention, then screw that. But if someone wants a larger sample for a poll, or they're trying to get the message out about some good cause, then sure, ask me and I'm more likely to give you a boost.

@mina Mostly same. Most of the time that will make me pass it by. But it does depend on the content. I'd say 90%+ of the time, the content isn't something that overcomes my recalcitrance at being told what to do.
