We are really watching this from inside with the same curiosity (and unease) like you people from the outside.

Nothing is set and whoever considers emigrating here should wait.

An all-party coalition (including the Greens & the Left party) just gave the master key to the german security apparatus in the upper house (), so that should make you somewhat more careful still.

Also the leading conservative party is corrupt as fuck & the social democrats are no better.

@berlinfokus What suggests the fascist path is that the CDU invited the Heritage Foundation to conferences (and not just once), and that they’re literally copying parts of „Project 2025“, e.g. plans to remove anti corruption laws, stopping development aids, building a Ministry of Digitalisation to reduce bureaucracy, shutting down social security, most of which is blatantly unconstitutional on either the federal or European level.

@berlinfokus Oh, and also the coalition has an easy game to coax the opposition into a 2/3 majority: *either* the votes of AfD *or* Green+Left party are more than enough.

And it’ll play like this:

The coalition proposes something the fascists agree with: „We can’t help them voting for our proposals!“

If the AfD will *not* vote for them, Green+Left party are practically forced to do so, because the next two weeks the press will be like: „They joined the fascists against the government!!!1!“

@skittles

Then again, these are (even though not so nice) examples of the ongoing relevance of the "lower house" (Bundestag) - so there won't be (soon) a situation like in the US where Congress is de facto non existent anymore & an unelected, unauthorised entity (Musk) can act with impunity.

But, given the political proximity between the far right & the conservatives, we *may* see a situation where dissent with the fascist regime in the US can be pursued by german authorities.

No save haven!

@berlinfokus Sure, this is not the US, the powers here are not concentrated that much, but I do expect a lot of attempts to change the constitution.

Re „unauthorised entities acting without impunity“: this is already happening (though to a lesser extent), e.g., the extradition of Maja by state police and prosecutors (not elected) in violation of a direct order of the constitutional court.

Seperation of power is only meaningful if there are actual consequences when one power ignores the others…
