Did the celebration of might, power, guns, weapons, the military, strutting, coarse manliness make you queasy?

Did you wonder where all this would end, the need to see more and more people as the enemy, the justification of lies, cruelty, ruthlessness? The supervision of citizens, so that you had to watch everything you did or said for fear you, too, would be rounded up?

Or was it easier just to go along with it all?

What did you hear in church on Sundays? What did your priest or pastor say? Did they talk about how Christian symbols and Jesus himself were being twisted and misrepresented to justify the rampage of hate and cruelty that were fueling the regime?

When almost everything that you were told was a lie, how did you hold onto your sanity, your moral center?
