Bad weather up high today so we went exploring instead and just 20 mins drive from home, we found this amazing valley. A "Shangri-La" sort of place ... peaceful, quiet and colorful. Never been here before nor knew of it's existence.

The day didn't quite turn out as planned but that's the detail for a later post. And, I guess that's the whole point of exploring?

Die Kalvarienbergkapelle in Wörnitzstein ist auf einem hohen, bewaldeten Felsrücken über dem linken Wörnitzufer errichtet - und zu jeder Jahreszeit ein tolles Fotomotiv. Ich liebe das Tal der Wörnitz, die sich natürlich durch die Landschaft fließend bis zur Donau mäandert.

The Calvary Chapel in Wörnitzstein is built on a high, wooded ridge above the left bank of the Wörnitz River—and a great photo opportunity at any time of year. I love the Wörnitz Valley, which meanders naturally through the landscape all the way to the Danube.

The white chalk cliffs on the edge of Jasmund Nationalpark on Rügen, Germany's largest island, are a sight to behold. Especially during a beautiful sunrise like this. It was nothing short of mesmerising to be a witness of this moment. On my own, no less. If you haven't visited this gem in the Baltic sea yet, you really should.

August 8, 1983: I passed park benches also swarming with humanity, most of whom seemed to be staring at me, wondering what the hell I was doing walking through that park with a backpack on. I did not do much to reassure them. I could see that most of them thought I was a psycho, and that had me constantly breaking out in fits of laughter, which no doubt convinced them.

We are standing next to the handrails on the pedestrian walkway along the left side of a long single span suspension bridge about 155 feet (47 meters) above a wide river. The near tower rises not far ahead. A car is coming towards us, a school bus is passing us going in the other direction. The opposite riverbank is wooded, with a small hill on our right and the lower slopes of a higher mountain on our left. The mostly sunny sky is a hazy light blue. A yellow rectangular sign not far in front of us warns drivers "bridge freezes before roadway". Signs on the other side of the road show us this roadway is the current route for US 6 and US 202.
