The #TrumpGestapo hardly wants the opposition poking their noses into their sadistic chambers of horror. You can almost see them drooling at the thought of taking their critics down the black hole, to never be seen again:

"McIver said that the charges against her are 'purely political' and 'mischaracterize and distort my actions and are meant to criminalize and deter legislative oversight.'"

Federal prosecutors have charged a member of Congress with assault after federal agents assaulted her and her colleagues. This is absolutely dystopian-level! If they can come after Congress and the Judiciary, why would you think a regular person stands a chance against this? Hopefully voters in Rep. McIver’s district protest this corrupt prosecution by AG Pam Bondi. nytimes.com/2025/05/19/nyregio #uspol #ice

In Feb, #ICE entered into a $1B contract w/ #GEOGroup, one of the country’s largest #PrivatePrison companies, to convert the building into a detention center. But Mayor #RasBaraka, who is running for governor of #NJ, galvanized opposition against the detention center, arguing that it had opened w/o the proper permits or inspections.

The controversy engulfing the facility drew the attention of the NJ lawmakers, who visited the facility on May 9 to inspect conditions.

#Republicans have seized on the episode to portray #Democrats as more interested in protecting the #immigrants w/criminal records they said are being held inside the facility than US citizens.🙄

On TV & social media, DHS ofcls have for days accused the lawmakers of “storming” into the facility, suggesting last week that assault charges were looming. The agency shared a video on X that it says shows Rep. McIver assaulting an #ICE agent.

…Paul J. Fishman, a lawyer for Rep. McIver, who previously served as #USattorney for the District of #NJ called the decision to charge the congresswoman “spectacularly inappropriate.”

“As a member of #Congress, she has the right & responsibility to see how #ICE is treating detainees. Rather than facilitating that inspection, ICE agents chose to escalate what should have been a peaceful situation into chaos.”

“No one is above the law—politicians or otherwise,”[except #Trump] #AlinaHabba said in a statement. “It is the job of this office to uphold *justice* *impartially*, regardless of who you are. Now we will let the justice system work.”

In a statement on Monday, Rep #LaMonicaMcIver blamed federal law enforcement for instigating the clash, saying that “#ICE agents created an unnecessary & unsafe confrontation.”

"NEW YORK (#AP) — Less than three weeks after his release from an immigration jail, the #Palestinian activist #MohsenMahdawi strode across the graduation stage at #ColumbiaUniversity on Monday morning, savoring a moment the #Trump administration had fought to make impossible.

Draped in a keffiyeh, Mahdawi, 34, paused to listen to the swell of cheers from his fellow graduates. Then he joined a vigil just outside #Columbia’s gates, raising a photograph of his classmate Mahmoud Khalil, who remains in federal custody."

"Today my office has charged Congresswoman McIver with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement."
-US Atty Habba

A travesty of justice.

"None of this had to happen. We arrived at Delaney Hall to do our jobs—period. Instead of facilitating congressional oversight, as they are obligated to do, ICE created chaos."
