ENTERTAIN ME MINION
Update: Dog in a cage.
Photo taken with iPhone 12 Pro Max.
A while back (600 hours to be exact, but who’s counting?) my dog slipped a disc in his back. After a day of being distressed, the diagnosis was confirmed by CT.
So he is on ‘crate rest’…that is, minimal activity. For 8 weeks.

Juno has been a champ about it. We keep him in a small cage most of the time, with evening nap privileges lifted up on the couch whist we watch TV. He also gets some supervised garden sniffing time….to take care of business.
The Ju-Ju-mobile.
As we don’t feel comfortable leaving him alone in the cage, our life has become one big tag-team adventure in time management. We purchased a cheap dog pram which, despite my initial eye-rolling, has been a godsend. Loading him up in the Ju-Ju-mobile, we take him out with us for coffee and walks. Good for his mental health, essential for our sanity.
Bed in a box.
Sleeping has been a problem. Juno normally sleeps on the bed with us (I know, I know) and will not tolerate the existential indignity of overnighting in his cage.
Our solution? Sleep with him in the cage of course.
Well….sort of. To be specific, I built an elevated wall (out of an old playpen) around the perimeter of the bed to stop any nocturnal shenanigans. Each night we all pile in and then close the gate. This is normal right?
A couple of times I have gotten up in the middle of the night and in a barely half awake state,
fallen over the wall,
folding the whole sketchily constructed thing down like a stack of dominoes,
and necessitating a 2am reconstruction.
Dogs. I get that we don’t deserve them…. but do they deserve us?
Up early again to catch the #sunrise on #Uluru and more distant #KataTjuta. And Jet reminded me this morning to bring his treats! #dogs #olddog #mydog #mydogposts #DogsOfMastodon #vans #vanlife #roadtrip #sunrises
Equinoctial greetings when Gaia is rotating straight up in space and everyone gets 12 hrs. direct sun. Perfect day to enjoy muted fall colors during Lakefork Canyon run, 2100m to 2300m then back. Substantial wetting rains all over this area this morning . Weak upper trough passage, bit of snow above 3000m. Really need it as looks warm/dry again for at least 10 days. Warming in fall here is a problem, forest stand mortality occurs favored spots. #climate #running #dogs #montana #wilderness

First day of autumn, but it didn't feel like it. The only difference seen was in the type of clouds in this evening. Have a good week, everyone.

Man's best friend
"The NSW government is reviewing its companion animal laws in the wake of fatal dog attacks. The dog attack incidents in 2024 include 2,824 attacks on adults, 461 on children and 2,598 on other dogs. A total of 430 dogs had to be euthanised."
"An Australian Institute of Health and Welfare study released last year found in 2012-13, 15.9 people per 100,000 needed hospital care after a dog attack. By 2021-22, that had more than doubled to 36.9.
The latest survey by Animals Medicines Australia, released on 18 September, found almost half of Australian households (49.3%) now have at least one dog, a jump from 2013 when it was 39%."
"...Many incidents of dog aggression “stem from lack of owner awareness or poor management” and it recommended education and awareness programs."

Satisfied that I can't get any closer to mom. Happy #Mondog everyone!
This #Mondog say hello to Roly (as in roly-poly), seen at Farmer John's pumpkin farm yesterday. He's four years old but still has puppy energy, I'm told.
For #Mondog, here’s a random parking lot dog that I saw this morning.
It wasn’t until AFTER I took the photo that I noticed the owner was also sitting in the car. So… I probably committed a bit of a faux paw.
