Der gelbe Schirm des Guides, die Reflexion in der großen Pfütze und dazu die sechseckige Bahnhofsuhr. Okay, der Schirm hat acht Ecken. Trotzdem genug Gründe, sich mit der Kamera vor die Pfütze zu knien. Als ich mich entfernte, bemerkte ich jemanden, der mit seinem Smartphone vor der Pfütze saß. Wir kamen noch miteinander ins Gespräch. Er hatte mich beobachtet und die Intention für das Foto verstanden. Ich kehrte nach einigen Minuten zurück und er hockte wieder vor der Pfütze: ein zweiter Guide mit gelbem Schirm war dazugekommen. “There are two of them now!” So hockten wir dann beide vor der großen Pfütze. Ob uns dabei jemand fotografiert hat, ist nicht bekannt.

The guide's yellow umbrella, the reflection in the large puddle, and the hexagonal station clock. Okay, the umbrella has eight edges. Still, enough reasons to kneel down in front of the puddle with my camera. As I walked away, I noticed someone sitting in front of the puddle with his smartphone. We got talking. He had been watching me and understood why I wanted to take the photo. I returned a few minutes later and he was again crouched in front of the puddle: a second guide with a yellow umbrella had joined him. “There are two of them now!” So we both crouched in front of the large puddle. It is not known whether anyone took a photo of us.

Unfassbar, dass ich dort nur etwa zwei Minuten gewartet habe, bis dieser Herr mit (farblich passendem!) Hut dort entlang lief. Ohne den Rucksack wäre es perfekt gewesen. Aber ich wollte mein Glück nicht herausfordern und lieber weiter nach anderen schönen Motiven in Berlin suchen.

It's unbelievable that I only waited there for about two minutes until this gentleman with a (color-matching!) hat walked by. Without the backpack, it would have been perfect. But I didn't want to push my luck and decided to continue searching for other beautiful motifs in Berlin.

Und gleich noch eine Frau auf dem Fahrrad mit Bewegungsunschärfe. 😅 An dieser Stelle habe ich tatsächlich schon öfter auf ein lohnendes Motiv gewartet: nach oben oder unten zu schauen ergibt oft interessante Fotos und die geschwungenen Linien des Pflasters lassen sich hier gut nutzen.

And another woman on a bicycle with motion blur. 😅 I have actually waited for a worthwhile subject here several times: looking up or down often results in interesting photos, and the curved lines of the pavement can be put to good use here.

This one might push the borders of #footpathfriday both for featuring a cyclist and for presenting a "path in the sea" rather than a path in the forest or similar, but here we are. 😉

I am not super satisfied with the perspective and framing, especially with the person sitting on the right being half cut off, but I just heard a voice behind me going "Hey! Wanna take a picture?" and then immediately this guy passes me pulling a wheelie.. so I had about 2s to react and take the shot. It was a cool moment, though!

Vor einigen Wochen war ich abends mit einer Freundin in Rostock unterwegs. Plötzlich erzählte sie vom „Greifenbad“ und bog auf einen Hinterhof ab. Die ehemalige "Öffentlichen Kur- und Warmbadeanstalt" wurde vor 100 Jahren eingeweiht und ist jetzt ein Wohnhaus. Schon das Eingangsportal in der am Jugendstil orientierten Fassade fand ich beeindruckend. Aber es kam noch besser.

Wir hatten das Glück, dass wir einen Blick in die Haupthalle mit ihren in blau-grüner Keramik gehaltenen Wänden werfen konnten. Zu abendlicher Stunde war es tatsächlich so dunkel darin, dass ich die kräftigen Farben erst auf dem Display meiner Kamera so richtig bewundern konnte. Neben einigen architektonisch orientierten Fotos gelang mir auch eines, auf dem meine Begleiterin zu sehen, aber dank 1/3s Belichtungszeit nicht zu erkennen ist. So darf ich es immerhin hier veröffentlichen! Ihre rötlich-orange leuchtenden Haare kontrastieren perfekt mit den blauen Kacheln der Wände.

A few weeks ago, I was out with a friend in Rostock in the evening. Suddenly, she mentioned the “Greifenbad” and turned into a backyard. The former “public spa and warm baths” was inaugurated 100 years ago and is now a residential building. I was already impressed by the entrance portal in the Art Nouveau-style façade. But it got even better.

We were lucky enough to be able to take a look inside the main hall with its blue-green ceramic walls. In the evening, it was so dark inside that I could only really admire the rich colors on my camera display. In addition to a few architecturally oriented photos, I also managed to take one in which my companion can be seen, but thanks to a 1/3s exposure time, she is not recognizable. So I am allowed to publish it here after all! Her reddish-orange glowing hair contrasts perfectly with the blue tiles on the walls.

Fishing For Moments
Erinnert ihr euch noch an das Foto mit der Treppe und dem Radfahrer, das ich vor einigen Wochen gepostet habe und das mich und einige andere an das ikonische Foto von Henry Cartier-Bresson erinnert hatte? Eigentlich hatte ich dort ja auf eine Person mit Regenschirm gewartet – um noch mehr Bögen und Tortenstücke ins Bild zu bekommen. Damals musste ich mich aber mit dem Radfahrer zufriedengeben. In der vergangenen Woche kamen endlich vorhandene Zeit und ausreichend lange Regenphasen zusammen. Es brauchte trotzdem 2 Versuche und insgesamt eine Stunde mehr oder weniger geduldigen Wartens. Ein oder zwei brauchbare Motive hatte ich schon eingefangen. Und dann liefen diese vier zusammen den Weg entlang und ich dachte, was für ein Glück ich habe. Und als sie genau dort auch noch kurz stehen blieben, konnte ich mein Glück kaum fassen. Hier ist mal einer der seltenen Fälle, wo ich eine spontane Idee mit Geduld so umsetzen konnte, dass sich das Ergebnis mit meiner Vorstellung deckt und ich mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden bin. Aber vielleicht sehe ja nur ich die vielen Tortenstücke und Bögen und erfreue mich daran?

Do you remember the photo with the stairs and the cyclist that I posted a few weeks ago, which reminded me and several others of Henry Cartier-Bresson's iconic photo? I had actually been waiting for someone with an umbrella to appear—to get even more arcs and slices of cake into the picture. But at the time, I had to settle for the cyclist. Last week, I finally had the time and a sufficiently long period of rain. It still took two attempts and a total of an hour of more or less patient waiting. I had already captured one or two usable motifs. And then these four walked along the path together and I thought how lucky I was. And when they even stopped there for a moment, I could hardly believe my luck. This is one of those rare cases where I was able to implement a spontaneous idea with patience in such a way that the result matches my vision and I am satisfied with the result. But maybe I'm the only one who sees the many pieces of cake and all the arcs and enjoys them?
