Adam Carrasquillo tells the story of Jesus Teran, who fled oppression in Venezuela, where he was trained to be a civil engineer, and became a carpenter in the US. He went for a check-in at the ICE office in Pittsburgh and was arrested on July 8, though he's followed all laws.

"Jesus’s detention resembles thousands of other stories that are quickly defining American society in the age of Trump deportations."

Prefacing a difficult-to-read report on the testimony of men now freed from CECOT, ProPublica states,

"We interviewed nine men for this story. They are bewildered, frightened, angry. Some said their feelings about what happened were still so raw they had trouble finding words to describe them. All of the men said they were abused physically and mentally during their imprisonment."

Attorneys with the Democracy Defenders Fund said Thursday that 27-year-old Neiyerver Adrián Leon Rengel had filed a claim for $1.3 million with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Rengel says he was wrongly sent to a notorious prison in El Salvador, where he was beaten by guards and kept from contacting his family or an attorney. Homeland Security said in an email that Rengel was deemed a public safety threat as a confirmed gang member. Rengel was sent to Venezuela earlier this month as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
