Ein fataler Irrtum. Ein Wunschdenken. Weil nicht sein darf, was nicht sein kann. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt gab es auch bereits anders lautende Telegramme, aber man wollte sie nicht glauben. Schließlich galt die Titanic damals für die Zeitungen als unsinkbar.

This #emboidery #floss was a hype since 1905/1910 ... and we can imagine that some of the governesses who had the misfortune to be on board, used it for #embroideries in the luxury rooms of the #Titanic.
#OTD the #Titanic sank in 1912. When I was a very small child, I knew an old woman who narrowly escaped this disaster. As the governess of a US millionaire's children, she was supposed to be travelling on the Titanic. They arrived too late in England and couldn't get tickets.
Shortly before her death, she gave me some old #yarn. I haven't dared to use it to this day because it's like travelling back in #deepTime. 113 years can feel so near.

Just finished watching the new National Geographic Titanic documentary where they used submersibles to scan the entire ship and the debris field. Damn, the visual details of what was left of engine room 2 is rather haunting.

Heute Nacht vor 113 Jahren sank die #Titanic. Auf dem Wolfgottesacker liegt das Grab eines Basler Überlebenden. Alfons Simonius-Blumer (1855-1920) hörte das Orchester als das Schiff sich neigte. Mit anderen Überlebenden im Rettungsboot Nr.3 wurde er von der Carpathia gerettet.
