Crane Pools at Sunset
Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, NM

This morning I reprocessed the original jpg taken by an old camera to remove the artificial saturation boost I'd given it at the time. This is much more natural and still shows the amazing beauty of that evening.

Photo of a shallow pool of about an acre in size, partially covered in ice, reflecting sunset colors. The pool has small ducks foraging in the foreground, about 30 Sandhill Cranes in the middle, and other birds along the far shore. Low desert hills, some with a dusting of snow, obscure the sinking sun. A few low clouds also reflect the sun. Overall appearance is dark with colorful red and orange highlights.

The view from Cadillac Mt towards the east, just before sunset. What appears like a mountain in the distance, is actually just the shadow of the mountain I was on top of at the moment!

I really haven't seen this phenomenon so clearly before, and I was happy I snapped this picture in the freezing cold
