I am once again trying to draft a pants pattern for my kid, having lost the website I used previously. The internet is garbage. Has come across a book that covers drafting your own basic sewing patterns?

Busy today, but got a few minutes and un-branded the pocket. As everyone pointed out, removing embroidery is a PITA and leaves a mark and lots of fabric damage, and I gave up and sewed a random piece of trimmed shirt over the branding... same.color and this shirt has so many little doohickies and loops and pockets no one will be able to tell! Still some black thread stuck from where the logo for this shirt was sewed, but I will eventually get it out. #sewing #tailoring
"Low Tide"
Teableau for 08/02/25
Sometimes we feel like we're gasping for survival. May the rising tide come soon enough to carry us toward a better future.
Finished project! A "button-up" shirt (with metal pops instead of buttons).
I made the pattern by tracing from a shop-bought shirt I like, after SO many failed attempts at drafting from my measurements and the tests not fitting right.
The fabric is 100% cotton "typewriter poplin", which is super tightly woven and crispy. I just chose it because I love the colour, I do Not intend to ever iron any of my clothing so it will be rumpled forever.

Heyo I should probably do some marketing or something: I have two sales coming up in the next few weeks.
This coming Saturday 8/9 the Somerville Yart sale is happening! I’ll be selling nerdy bags (including a great new smaller zippered purse) and my friend Pía is joining me to sell her awesome spiky weird pottery. Come check things out! We’re right behind the Armory: https://somervilleartscouncil.org/yart-sale/yart/
And then on September 20 I’ll be at FLUFF FESTIVAL in Union Square - mark your calendars!
I am still thinking about getting an embroidery machine...
Has someone here an opinion about the "Brother Skitch PP1"?
After looking a bit around on the "used market" currently the best options seems to be the "Skitch PP1" or a "Innov-is F440e" (other hints are gladly appreciated)
From my perspective the PP1 has two advantages significantly smaller footprint and lower price (roughly 40-50% cheaper, even more if I want to get the magnetic hoops for the F440e) and one major downside: I'd need a mobile app to use it (with all the risks of enshitification and not supported anymore") where the F440e simply accepts a USB-A thumbdrive.
(Yes, the F440e is also a bit faster and has a larger work area, but don't think that would make a big difference for me.)

Sewed and hemmed arms. Now need to de-brand rhe shirt and remove the embroidery (which says "Canon". Love the cameras but don't need or want to be a billboard, LOL) Now I just need a pith helmet #sewing #tailoring
Actually very simple.on this one. I checked the collar, and the collar size on this shirt was the same as a large, even though the torso was XXL. Measured out the sizes, pinned and checked fit, and then went whole.hog and cut it to size. Marked with crayon. I guess I need to buy some chalk, LOL. #sewing #tailoring
Applying whatI learned sewing a shirt to modding existing shirts to fit. (Err... sewing, I guess that is called tailoring, not modding ). Here's the before XXL shirt I bought for $4 to practice on. This is the "before" way-too-big photo. #sewing #tailoring
Checked out a local garage sale where an old lady was paring down her fabric (mostly remnants, and stuff I would not use).
I walk up to the fabrics, the lady looks at me and says: "this is just fabrics over here" (implying I was probably in the wrong place)
Me: "I'm looking for fabrics for sewing!"
(eyebrows lifted) "Oh, okay!"
Thus, I am given entry to where all the 75+ year old ladies are in the fabric section of the garage sale
(bought some ripstop nylon and a few random swaths of cotton, and learned about all the random projects the lady had done with all the various remnants she had there! I guess lots of memories attached to all of them!)
Just spent a few minutes looking for #sewing fabric on Amazon. What a mess. I almost never use Amazon anymore and their search/customization is absolutely useless for something like this. I've tried moodfabrics and fabricdepot sites but I can't find what I'm looking for (polyester, non-spandex, lightweight durable outdoor pants material). Any suggestions? #AskFedi
My daughter is trying to learn to sew. The 50 year old Bernina I have here is giving her some problems and I don't know enough to know if it's a machine or a technique issue.
Are modern machines much different? Easier? Especially for a beginner.
Advice welcome. :)
Update on the stuck bobbin shuttle. Just before taking the whole apparatus apart we gave the hand crank another turn with force. That was enough to unblock the shuttle to grab and pull out the stuck thread. All in one piece.
We also configured the upper and lower tension and go now shopping for the right oil to service the rest of the machine.
Thank you to all you kind people that helped out.
@ai6yr
It's often khaki or twill. If you have a brick-and-mortar fabric store in the area, you can take your clothes there to match up fabrics that you want.
I have many metres of that weight of fabric, largely purchased at the annual sale by a charity group. Most fabric there is $2/metre, and they often have huge segments of cloth. Since I've given up hard pants for the decade, I'm using that fabric to make assorted storage bags at the moment, and possibly a duffle.

You know, like the Neil Diamond song on a Hot August Night.
Random #sewing question to the Fediverse... What is the fabric name for the thicker fabric used for cargo shorts/work pants? (usually 100% cotton, or 65 poly/35% cotton blend)? (Update: Thanks everyone! Canvas or twill... or if you want the extra heavy duty stuff, duck)
I've almost made another fabric patch #upcycled from jeans!
The lighter scrap jean material were from a pair donated to the thrift shop I work at: and were unsellable. The other was a pair of mine that had a pen leak. The white fabric is a from a jean pocket.
Made a bunch I plan to sew them on thrifted jeans and sell them... similar to my over-shirt like.
Bruh so much fabric and clothes get scrapped in landfills... why not like make door and window draught excluders out of fabric leftovers we can't use and give them free to people in the winter time when it's cold
Like this!!! This is super easy to make and uses up so many unusable pieces of fabric as stuffing
Okay. Next sewing project. Obtained two 2X giant shirts at one of the local thrift shops to deliberately understand the process of modifying them to my size (I am not 2X). The cashier marked down some big 2X size discount, LOL. BIG MAN Edition. One is a Canon wilderness photography shirt of some sort. The question will be is how far in reverse I have to take the shirts (huge!), ie do the collars need to get re-done? #sewing
