Flipboard News Desk<p>Update: Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre won the Battle River—Crowfoot byelection yesterday with 80.4% of the vote and will return to Parliament when it reopens on Sept. 15. The result was expected, since the region is one of the safest blue seats in the country. Conservative Damien Kurek won 83% of the vote at the last general election before stepping down so that Poilievre could stand in a byelection. Flipboard News Desk<p>Pierre Poilievre, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, lost his seat at the country's general election earlier this year. Today, he hopes to win it back in a byelection in the Battle River—Crowfoot riding in Central Alberta. Poilievre is expected to win handily — his fellow Conservative, former MP Damien Kurek, who stepped aside so his party leader could stand, won 83% of the vote last election. He's not without competition, however. 214 candidates are registered in the byelection, the largest number ever on a federal ballot in Canadian history.
