#FEMA denied #disaster assistance and hazard mitigation grants to three Kentucky counties hit by spring storms, stating the damage wasn’t severe enough—part of a broader trend under the #Trump administration to reduce federal disaster aid and shift recovery responsibilities to states; critics warn this move leaves under-resourced local agencies ill-equipped to handle the increasing frequency and intensity of climate-fueled disasters.

A new piece from #AVLWatchdog about the inadequacy of the #FEMA flood maps in the #Asheville area during #Helene and now going forward.

I know during our time in Florida that the NFIP actually subsidized the floor insurance and thus spurred development right along the coast, which was built and rebuilt several times due to storm damage.

Although in CenFL we did buy flood insurance in our last house, as coverage was relatively inexpensive, and the area was low-lying.

Premiums have gone way up, and I don't carry it here in WNC now.

Asheville Watchdog · ‘Dreadful’ and ‘hopelessly behind’: FEMA flood maps reveal their flaws in a time of warming and extreme stormsBy DAN DeWITT

So we have #FEMA flood insurance, it will renew in October. Am I just throwing away my $1000+ into the felon's slush fund for wayward billionaires pedophiles?

"Before FL is reimb the $450M op cost for the EVER #detention camp, this prgm requires an ENVIR impact study be conducted. The st refuses to do this, even w a lawsuit agst them."

The #TrumpRegime has called on states to🚨asst #ICE by bldg temp facs. #FEMA will now distribute $608M to sts/loc govts for the CONST of detn facs.

The prgm requires recipients to use the funds for “the costs of sheltering... in a detained ENVIR” *impact assmt: req.
