Feeling hopeless about the ongoing pandemicene. Watching from afar a senior loved one deal with a serious illness that is probably #Covid. Which she probably got at the final church service for a church that is closing because their members are old and in failing health and dying off. But nobody masks. But today she went grocery shopping. She can barely function or stop coughing, but she went grocery shopping. She did at least wear a surgical mask, but... And she went because she doesn't know how to order groceries online and all of her friends are older and frailer than she is. And she isn't the type to ask for help. Ever. So all of the cultural baggage of a lifetime has trained her to believe that 1) Pushing through is noble.
2) It's shameful to ask for help. We should work hard and take care of ourselves.
3) Good Christian People serve others, but don't accept help. And Good Christian People go to church. To a building. In person. And hug each other. And sing together. And kill each other.
