Day 12

Global 2000

Commissioned in 1977 by Jimmy Carter, published in 1980

A true eye-opener for me.

Should have been mandatory in every secondary school curriculum since then.

Thanks for posting the Global 2000 report commissioned by Jimmy Carter.

Regrettably, the report's impact was limited because Americans turned on President Carter so Ronald Reagan came to power to push the fossil fools' agenda.

It should have been taught in our schools, but also about the Powell Memo which was GOP plan to block climate and progressive policies.

@GreenFire

Unfortunately, Ronald Reagan would become the most consequential US president at least since Eisenhower.

Together with his buddies Margaret "There is no such thing as society" Thatcher and Helmut Kohl, they cemented the neoliberal world order, which is haunting us till today.

@mina i’ve not read this. Would you mind saying what the take away is?

@Huntn00

It's a summary of projections, especially regarding the environment, including scenarios for global warming, climate change, desertification, use of natural resources etc.

Of course, the models of almost 50 years ago were not as sophisticated as today's, but overall, they were pretty accurate at predicting the current dystopia.
