Related; "citizen" (German: "bürger") refers to the identity given to you by the nation state, as in your passport or national id card, which CAN be cancelled/restricted by the authorities. It is not really "yours" as in "controlled by you", but for you to use under certain conditions.
Denizen may mean the "opposite", with flexibility..: (1/multipart)
Secondly, in "real life", we all have various "roles" or "contexts" where we are known to the other participants with often only parts of our real/full identities.
Your co-students know you as a student, sports pals as soccer player and your co-workers know you in work context, but not necessarily (in context of) your other "hats". The parents of your children's friends know you as a parent, but not necessarily anything about how you are as a student, worker, or even personally.
